May Flowers; What’s blooming on the Space Coast

The saying goes, April showers bring May flowers, and sure here on the Space Coast there is a lot in bloom. But, it’s not just flowers that are popping up. From more launch activity to arts and entertainment, the Space Coast is blooming – in more ways than one.

3, 2, 1 LIFTOFF

The long awaited ULA Atlas 5 launch carrying the Boeing CST-100 Starliner is slated for May 19 from Cape Canaveral. This second launch attempt will test the spacecraft for an unpiloted flight to the International Space Station. This flight will take off before several more SpaceX Falcon 9 launches in June, all providing breathtaking views from our back (or front) yards.

A SHOWERING OF ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

The Henegar Center will be rocking with two musicals on deck for May and June. Elton John’s Aida and We Will Rock You, featuring the music by Queen will  debut at this historical theater. The Cocoa Village Playhouse, or Broadway on Brevard, will continue their successful Something Rotten! through May while also adding Title of Show, a comedy new to the playhouse. The Maxwell C. King Center for Performing Arts never disappoints, and this Spring is no exception. From Classic Albums Live, to comedy headliners like Leanne Morgan, there is something for everyone. We can’t forget about the Titusville Playhouse located in the heart of Downtown Titusville. It’s 57th season will feature spring show Legally Blonde the Musical.

SPRING FLINGS (events)

The last hooray before the summer months, expect some spring flings on the Space Coast. The Space Coast Air Show dazzles the sky with something other than rockets. A short drive away, theme parks wow with yearly festivals such as Walt Disney World’s Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival and SeaWorld’s Electric Ocean. And with cool breezy nights, expect live music in our four unique downtowns, Historic Downtown Melbourne, EGAD, Historic Cocoa Village and Downtown Titusville.

CAN’T FORGET ABOUT LAGERS

If you haven’t taken a look at our Launches & Lagers there’s no better time than spring. Intracoastal Brewing Company newly expanded beer garden is the vibe you need, while BeachFly Brewing has a brand new location for their beach inspired beer! Up in the north end of the county Dirty Oar Beer Company is serving up fun in its uber-chill tasting room in the heart of Cocoa Village.
